Woy Woy to Kincumber and Return – 19 January 2020
Participants: Colin North, Trish Treagus, Steven Constantine, Carol Campbell, Jeff Cameron, Lisa Bryant, Andrew Gibbons, Lisa Bryant, Heather Smith
The enthusiastic crowd pushed off from the Lions Park Wharf at Woy Woy in good paddling conditions and headed east along the historic route of the “Orphanage Ferry” through Cockle Channel keeping Davistown on our left.
Bird life put on a great display along our route: we saw a white bellied sea eagle scouting for fish, pied cormorants and great cormorants fishing for flathead and spotted pied oyster catchers sitting on oyster baskets.
We passed though the channel linking Brisbane Water and Kincumber Broadwater. On our right was the site of the Kincumber Orphanage where the Ferry Service was begun in 1905. It is now a Spirituality and Education centre.
After crossing the expanse of Kincumber Broadwater, we stopped for a snack and chat before returning to Woy Woy via the channel between Rileys and St Huberts Islands.
